Unique Finnish Baby Shower Theme: Marimekko + Moomins
If you are unfamiliar with Marimekko or Moomins, let me start there: Marimekko is a Finnish design house known for their original prints and bold colors; The Moomins are basically the Mickey Mouse/Disney characters of Finland.
Okay now that you’re up to speed: let’s get to this baby shower 🤩
Mom-to-be is (obviously) part Finnish, and their nursery theme is related to the Moomins as well, so this theme just felt right. Let’s walk through all the coordinating details! Starting with…
The Invitation
You know what I love about doing invitations? They themselves have all their own little opportunities for coordinating details! The flower on the envelope matches the flowers on the invitation itself. Matching fonts and colors on the baby book sticker. And a little floral paper clip to hold it all together, too. And bonus: bright, bold, colorful, floral stamps.
Photo Focal Point
I knew I wanted to decorate the mantel with something other than balloons or a garland or banner, and decided on tons of greenery and this gauzey, flowy, muslin banner that we designed and had printed.
I hired a local florist I know (it’s my friend Jenna, have you heard of her?) and my other friend Zoey popped in to help, too. And voilà! Perfect focal point for photos and for the shower as a whole.
The mom has already hung it the banner on the back of the door in their nursery so they can have it as a keepsake forever (criez).
Other Signage + Activities
Welcome sign, of course. And they’re doing surprise-sex, which always makes a baby pool a little higher stakes.
We painted blocks for the baby (mom Nora + dad Phil = Phora) and my personal favorite baby shower activity: we had a spot for friends to give advice to the future parents. I first did this at Jenna’s baby shower with postcards that she kept (and even displayed a few favorites in the nursery!)
Bonus Party Goods
Cocktail napkins and acrylic cups are always going to tie an event together, IMO. Perfect for the event itself, and perfect as an ongoing keepsake!
Tented food cards + these cookies from Don’t Worry Cookie Co. were the best finishing details.
In conclusion: made-up themes are often the best ones, because they end up reflecting the personality of the parents and the future baby’s family. (Because whose personality is really peaches or cuties…? 🍊) We’re here to work with you on whatever you may be dreaming up (or if you need help brainstorming the dream, we’re here for that too). Give us a shout to get started!
