A fully cohesive wedding | Garrett & John in NYC
Garrett and John got married last October in New York City, and it was so fun putting together all of their wedding details. Let’s walk through the process, from first proofs to final wedding moments!
Our first step with any couple is to have them fill out a details questionnaire, which captures not just the nitty gritty details like time and date and address, but also the general vibe of the couple, the wedding, and the invitation suite. Most of the time we begin with designing the save the date or invitation suite, and then we use that as a blueprint for all of the day-of wedding items.
When we started on Garrett and John’s invitation suite, here’s what they told us:
Clean, simple, black and white look
Some sort of fall-ish stencil artwork (for their October wedding)
Minimal calligraphy; easily legible fonts and format
“Think fall warehouse chic, whatever that means!”
They also noted that they wanted to include a QR code (as small and non-distracting as possible) for guests to RSVP on their website; but they also wanted to send an RSVP card (but not stamped) for guests who didn’t want to RSVP on the website. Additionally, some guests were also going to be invited to the Rehearsal Dinner, so they wanted an invitation and RSVP for that as well to be sent out with the entire suite.
Here was the first proof we sent over:
They loved the clean look and aesthetic, and liked the left aligned text on version one. They asked to see the “and” be a little less calligraphy and more drawn out and sent over a reference image. They also wanted to see if we could use line art of baby’s breath (instead of the florals you see here) since that was their main wedding flower. All those edits bring us to proof #2:
From there, we continued to tweak some of the language, and also ended up adding the full weekend event schedule onto the back of the invitation to save some paper and cost by not adding an entirely separate details card. We also continued to use the hand drawn line aesthetic that was added to the “and” into the other pieces. And here is the final suite!
I love the way this turned out; it feels so *them*!
Once the suite is complete and approved by the couple, we get everything ordered and sent out. Garrett and John opted to assemble the suites themselves (we offer it as an add-on service for couples who want it!) so everything was sent directly to them to mail out.
Then it’s on to the next phase: day-of wedding items!
Here is a list of all the items we did for Garrett and John’s wedding:
Small signage (guest book sign)
Large signage (welcome sign)
Place cards
Table numbers
Matchboxes
Cocktail napkins
You’ll see in the photos below that those first four items coordinate perfectly with the invitation suite, creating cohesion from start to finish!

They wanted the matchboxes to be independent from the rest of the wedding design, with more of a ‘steakhouse’ vibe. I love where they ended up:
And of course, we can’t forget about Tom & Bruce. This is one of the very first things Garrett mentioned them wanting to do at the wedding, and it turned out perfect if I do say so myself.
Thank you to Unique Lapin Photography for capturing everything so beautifully. We love you, Reinhardts!
